Goodbye, Au Revoir, Ciao...

The time has come....for me to say goodbye.

But not for forever. :) :) :) Haha. Had you worried for a minute there, didn't I? Anyway, tomorrow I leave for camp- which is seriously one of my favorite places in the whole world- but I won't be blogging. For a whole gosh darn week. (and unfortunately the scheduled post thing is screwed.) I will take pictures and be thinking of all of you over the course of this week, but for now it's back to packing for me :P

But first, I'll do this tag from Elrania:

What was the last song you listened to?
River by Enya

What is the longest a song has been stuck in your head?
Almost a year now. The Planets by Gustav Holst, which was what we did in marching band last year.

If you were an artist, what genre would you sing?
New Age- but you wouldn't catch me as a singing artist. Trumpet is more like it.

What is your favorite peace of music you've performed in front of an audience?
There have been sooo many it's hard to choose. I loved ALL our music for the final concert and I really enjoyed Enchanted last March, and Undertow last year at band camp and Prairie Dances and Atlantis from honors bands, and All Blues, In a Sentimental Mood and The Jazz Police from jazz band......

What piece of music best describes you when you are happy?
Meteor Shower by Owl City

What piece of music best describes you when you are angry?
Requiem For A Dream or Mars: The Bringer of War

Name your two favorite songs from movies:
The Breaking of the Fellowship from LoTR, Dancing Queen from Mamma Mia

Name your two favorite songs not from movies:
Thank You For the Music by Abba, The Planets by Gustav Holst

What song makes you want to dance?
Tik Tok by Ke$ha (LOL!!!!)

Who do you choose to do this tag?
Anyone who's gonna miss my wacky posts and stuff while I'm gone :)

See Ya Later!

Summer Fun With Olive Tree [and a tag]

It's been a fun couple o' days! Yesterday, Olive Tree came over and we took a walk and took pics, went down to XanFan's baseball game and took pics, and came home and watched Avatar! It was my first time watching it and it was sooooo good! But sad :( Anyway, this morning/afternoon my mom took the two of us to the beach! The water was cold, the sand was hot, the waves were big and we had a great time. She's going to be posting about our little adventures on Wednesday- so be sure to check out (of) Horsefeathers for pics! Right now though, I'm practicing my trumpet  no, that's not true. I'm writing a post) but AFTER I will practice my trumpet some more (I already did some) and work on packing packing packing for Pilgrim Lodge! In the meantime, here's a tag from Elrania:

What time did you get up this morning?
7:10

What time is considered getting up early for you?
During the school year I get up at 5:30 every day so I'd probably say 5.
What time is considered sleeping in for you?
Anytime past 8. It may seem crazy but, whatever :)

Cheese or Pepperoni pizza?
Cheese. I'm a vegetarian, remember?

What did you have for dinner last night?
A yummy pasta dish with cheese, tomatoes, and spinach!

What is your favorite dessert?
You really wanna make me decide??? That's just mean cruel.
How many movies have you seen in 3-D? Name them
Zip. Nada. Zilch. ZERO.

Who is your current favorite movie character?
Ummm.....uhhh....gosh. I really don't know!
If you have an iPod, how many songs are on it?
I have an iPod but I haven't gotten around to putting many songs on it. I mostly just have some Owl City and trumpet stuff.
What do you need to shop for?
Nice summer-y clothes.
Name one goal you have on blogger:
I'd like to get 100 followers (which by the way is only 3 more!)

Creativity Spark

Hey everyone. Yesterday I mentioned a project I was working on and I finished it this morning and I've got pics to share with you!

This project is for my upcoming week at Pilgrim Lodge. The theme for the week is Arts Alive and we're supposed to bring something creative that we've made that expresses ourselves. This is what I came up with:

First I gather all of my materials:

Now that I have everything that I'll need I take the yardstick and draw five parallel lines. I then continue by adding a few measures out of a favorite piece of music. In this case- When You Believe.

The next step is to do a green watercolor background and add some swirls in acrylics.

After letting it all dry, I outline each swirl in sharpie and go over the acrylics with pastels.

The next thing I do is to write a different word or phrase in each swirl:

I do some final touch-ups, add a signature and TA DA!

I'm very pleased. Anyway, Olive Tree is coming over tonight :) and I got one question on the last post from MadiShea.

So to answer that, I much prefer reading in the sun to dancing in the rain.

blog party, questions and what i've been up to

Yesterday I hung out with Ripplestar at her camp out on Cushings Island (near Peaks). Got some good pics of forts the lighthouses back on the mainland and some flowers which will be posted while I am away at camp! I'm also working on a project for camp and will post pics of that tomorrow. Phew! The catch-up is over.

I am entering Bleah Briann's blog party! You can check it out too be clicking HERE.

Justin Beiber or Adam Young?
Is this a trick question? Beiber sounds like a girl and OWL CITY ROCKS.

The Prince Of Peace or Lord of Lords (trick question)? *haha*
As a title I prefer Prince of Peace

Peaches or Apricots?
Apricots are gross. I like peaches though.

Blogger or Facebook?
I have both and like them each for different reasons.....I love my blog more.

Myspace or Twitter?
I have neither so yeah.

Computers or Cell Phones?
COMPUTERS!

Peaches and Cream or Strawberry Shortcake
Totally strawberry shortcake. Had it the other night.....without the shortcake. :'( (our oven is still dead)

Stripes or Polka Dots?
Stripes but I love both.

Pink or Blue?
BLUE!!! I hate pink :P

Black or White?
If it's fall or winter, then black. Spring and summer, white.

Skirts or Shorts?
Depends.

Jeans or Slacks?
Jeans. (aka what I wear virtually every day)

Sneakers or Flats?
If they're my converse then sneakers.

Sandels or Flip flops?
Flip flops = my liiiiife (jk, that's music)

Once Upon a Time or The End?
The End

History or Mathematics?
Math. :D

Awards or Tags?
I like a healthy mix of both.

Ballet or Soccer?
Soccer...though I'd prefer a jam session over either.

Keyboard or Pen and Paper?
Depends on what I'm doing.

E-mail or Hand Written Letters?
Again, it depends.

Candles or Flashlights?
They can both be useful but I'd have to say candles.

Action!

Cats or Dogs?
Cats. I. Do. Not. Like. Dogs. At. All.

More Questions or Stop Now?
I'm cool either way

So yeah. As a blogger, I don't get many questions from my readers but if there are any question that you'd like to ask me, just say in a comment and I'll include the answers in my next post :)

An ingenious idea

Even though I'll be away for all of next week without a computer.....YOU CAN'T GET RID OF ME!!! :) Why? Because I, Cornet Crazie, have created a post for every single day next week for you to read while I'm away. You will not have to be deprived of my writings which could lead you to great distress until my return. So I say thank you THANK YOU to the wonder of scheduled posts from saving us from this tragedy.

(Wow that was a strange post)

Summer 2010...It's Here Already!

Yeah, yeah. I know what you're thinking. This crazy girl's been out of school for a whole entire week and she's just now getting around to posting about what her summer's gonna be like. Believe me. I know. But since I forgot about it before, today is the perfect day to do it because today is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year! So really, summer started today- NOT a week ago when I got out of school. ;)

So what do I have planned? A few things. Here's the list:

Camps- two weeks of Pilgrim Lodge. June 27-July 3 and August 8-14. Also a week of band camp in the middle of July.

LOTS and LOTS of reading. I read a lot during the school year too, but unfortunately the homework deal makes it hard. During the summer though I can usually get through a good sized novel a day. Maybe I'll even head to the library after I write this post!

Practice practice practice! No way am I letting my trumpet/cornet/trombone just sit in it's case all summer. I've got marching band starting at the end of August and I'm determined to get 1st or 2nd chair at band camp...

Projects. Photography, creating the desk for my room, maybe compose a couple things, write stuff for Anecdote, etc...

Beach time. Hang time with friends. BLOGGER TIME. It's gonna be a good summer.

(Not to mention maybe....a new profile picture?)

Island Adventures

Happy Father's Day everybody! (And especially to all the dads out there- lol)
My family did some fun stuff to celebrate, and I think that you'll have fun reading this post as I not only recorded the days events in pictures....I captured some movies too.

Part I- Breakfast

We went to a nice little diner for breakfast. I had this yummy hot chocolate to drink- and I started choking on the whipped cream when XanFan said something ridiculous. Was funny.

This was my breakfast when it first arrived- all steaming hot.

And then after....

It was very yummy! XanFan on the other hand, decided that he needed this HUGE meal.

But he ate it all, so what can I say?

Part II: The Ferry

Of course, to get to the island you need to ride a boat of some sort, and we took the ferry. We had a bit of a wait so we parked the bikes and.....waited.

For future reference, my bike is the blue one and it's waaaay too small for me.

The ferry was right on time, and I was able to snap this picture as we pulled away from the docks.

You know what I realized? I never actually told you where we were going! My family was headed out to Peaks Island for the day to bike around and hopefully find a beach. Anyway, once we left the harbor, I realized that my camera had a video function. So I took advantage of it.

Haha.

Part III: Arrival

Here's where the ferry docked on the island:

After getting off, we walked up the hill and I took some photos of nearby sites and stuff, such as this sign on one of the stores,

And the view looking back down the hill.

I don't hold with graffiti at all, but this sign was too cool to resist taking a picture of.

We found a map, and then it was time to bike!

Part IV: Biking

So we set off around the island. One of the first things to happen was that I decided that trying to take a video while riding my too-small bike was a good idea.

We also saw many great sights such as these:

The beaches were very rocky- but hey! Rocks are great for stacking!

They're also good for running around and capturing video....

Some rocks also had this neat sticky seaweed on them!

There were also many flowers along the beaches. They smelled SO good.

Part V: The Beach

As we finished our loop around the island, we found a beach that was nice and sandy. Ironically enough, it was called, you guessed it, Sandy Beach.

We had lots of fun, though the water was extremely cold.

XanFan and I had a sandcastle competition. Which was fun.

This seagull was also hanging around so I just HAD to take his picture. And a final movie.

Finally we finished up the day with some ice cream. Cheers!

*note* Sigh...I'm extremely sorry but the funny videos refused to upload. :'( If you are dying to see them, email me and I'll send them to you.

Another Day In...Paradise?

Well, maybe not palm trees and soft white sand- but paradise all the same. The weather has been just GORGEOUS these past few days, over 80 degrees, not muggy, a few puffy white clouds lazily drifting along, and so I'm making the most of these great days by doing one of my favorite summer things. You see, my house has a nice big wrap-around porch with.....a porch swing!!! So on nice summer days I'll drag out the cushion, a pillow, a radio, a stack of books and maybe some lemonade and popcorn. And that, my friends, is one of the best ways to spend your summer days in your own PARADISE.

I also have some news. A week from tomorrow, I will be leaving. *sob* Well, I'm leaving to one of my favorite places EVER, (Pilgrim Lodge, the United Church of Christ summer camp that I go to) but still, I will not be able to post for a week. (oh horror of horrors) So that's just a heads up on that :)

Why Treble Clef?

Many of us start out blogging with a blog with not the best blog title. A title that doesn't really represent the author- or the blog. Thankfully though, we are able to come up with a name that suits the blog more. Examples?

Blog of Stories to Anecdote
Awesome Horse Stuff to Of Elven Elrania and Her Horse
Life of the Olive to (of) Horsefeathers
and of course,
Cornet Crazie in Action to Treble Clef.

So when I started this lovely blog I thought that I only had to post about band. Well, it got kinda boring. Why not just post about life in general? The original name still fit, but it wasn't cool, and snappy and really me. So I thought. And thought. And thought some more... and by this time I had really figured out what the music meant to me. I had begun teaching myself the trombone. I'm not really sure when I decided to switch for certain but it may have been around May or June of last year. I don't know. :P Anyhoo, I think it was actually Olive Tree that suggested the name Treble Clef- and it started to grow on me. Treble Clef. It seemed almost perfect. The treble clef seemed free and optimistic, elegant and spirited- and of course, a well known musical symbol. So I decided to give it a try...and it stuck. It clicks with me and anyway, Cornet Crazie is a better username then a blog title :)

Baseball, Trumpets, Converse (no Chevrolet)

(Don't get the title? Chevrolet has a jingle that goes "Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet". I'm just taking it from there)

Yesterday, Ripplestar and I went to a Sea Dogs game- the Sea Dogs being the minor league baseball team nearby.

We had a lot of fun- although we lost. Very very badly.
Of course, the team mascot, Slugger the Sea Dog, was there. Ripplestar wanted to go squeeze his nose- but she didn't get the chance.

Between innings there are usually different promotions and contests and Ripplestar and I got picked to do one!!! It was called 'name that tune' and we won it! :) We won a bunch of CD's.

We were kind of bored during one inning where the other team was scoring a bunch of runs so....I took random pictures. Like this one:

Mine are on the left, by the way :)
It was fun.

Before the game I had my trumpet lesson (surprise surprise) and it went very well!!! We are working on some pieces for my placement audition at band camp. For my concert band tryout I have a lovely nocturne and for my jazz, a hip swing piece by Miles Davis.

Summer is so awesome...

So...we're done.

Yesterday totally did not feel like the last day of school. For one thing, it was a Monday. For another, it was a whole day of school. (It's usually only like 3 hours) We (my whole 8th grade class) went to Point Sabago and had quite a nice day on the beach. I brought my camera....but then I didn't know what to take a picture of! :P The water was chilly but I went in twice, and the second time, Bella and I stayed in for a while actually. (The trick was to keep your shoulders under the water) We got back around two, and when to homeroom for or final report cards. High honors again, yippee! At 2:15 school was officially out, and so I went to say goodbye to my teachers and then it was back home to prepare for graduation! Graduation was good and well, here we are! Brand-new freshman, class of 2014. We did it. we made it through middle school.  HOORAY FOR US!

An Ending And Reflection

I just can't believe that today it will be over! So much has changed since the beginning of this year. At first I hated my math teacher and thought the others were OK, but now it's pretty much the opposite. And I've just learned so much. I've excelled in math. I got my trumpet. I learned what truly makes a good teacher and a bad teacher. Just look at how wonderful this blog has become! I felt pride when I finished my novel. I can speak French pretty well now. I've learned to live, really live. I combated swine flu. I polished my dream. I learned clarinet and mallet percussion. I joined the high school marching band. Friends and social groups morphed and changed a bit. I learned to say goodbye. It's been an interesting year, and that's for sure! And well, I've still got today. A day filled with a fun field trip with my class during the day and goodbyes and graduation in the afternoon and evening. It's a good way to end it.

So I'm Pretty Sure My Oven Just Blew Up (Or Something Of The Like)

Picture this. It's around 7 o'clock on a Sunday night. Dad's at a meeting. Younger brother lays on the couch, engrossed in his book- the radio is on. In the kitchen adjoining the living room the mother and older daughter have just finished cutting up tortillas for some homemade chips- they're on a baking tray ready to go in the oven. While waiting as the oven heats up the daughter goes to a nearby closet to search for a paper bag to put the gifts for her teachers in. Suddenly there is a loud sound. "BZZZZZZT!" Uh-oh...it came from the oven. The mother opens the oven door and smoke streams out. What just happened? Did the element blow? A faintly electrical/chemical smell fills the air.

So yeah. Dunno what just happened but that's the story.

Dance And Confirmation

The dance was soooo much fun! It was cool to actually be all dress up for a dance (never happened before cause everything else is informal) Like Eldarwen asked in comment, I'll try and get a pic up of my outfit soon :) However, at first glance, nobody recognized me! (my teachers seemed to have a hard time believing that it was really me) Let me tell you why...

On any normal day, this is how you'll find me: Wearing either flip-flops or my awesome plaid converse, a pair of jeans and some kind of cute top. Purple band around my wrist, often my treble clef necklace and a pair of earrings. Wavy brown hair falling around my shoulders, and I wear glasses too. But this is how I was at the dance: A pair of strappy black (heeled) sandals and a sparkly, floaty, blue and black dress. I wear a simple blue necklace and a cute pair of silver earrings. I'm actually wearing makeup. But here's the thing that was getting people: I wore my hair up for once in my life and I wasn't wearing glasses (which resulted in a killer headache and not being able to see all that well). But yeah. That was the dance.

Today is confirmation at church (already???) and I'm pretty excited. We (the confimands) get to lead the whole service which will be fun and one of them is actually doing the sermon! Should be interesting. After we are having a picnic :)

Finally, tomorrow's the big last day! Field trip and graduation, here I come!

6.12.2010

time to dance!

Yay! Tonight is the 8th grade dance!!! :) I'm excited and it should be a lot of fun. My mom and I are actually in the middle of doing my nails (they're drying) a very pretty metallic blue color. Yep, I'm getting all dressed up 'cause the dance is pretty much semi-formal, which is cool because every other dance is totally casual. :P Anyway, this is just a quick post- I'll post more about it after.

Former Glory

I know how much you guys like contests and Olive Tree is having a great one right now- with a COMPLETE MAKEOVER as the prize! So click on the button below to check it out!
