Turning the Tables

When you accidentally wake up at four-thirty in the morning, an hour too early, this could be a sign that your day might not be the best.
If you accidentally wake up at four-thirty in the morning, AND it's raining, your day probably won't be so great.
If you accidentally wake up at four-thirty in the morning, and it's raining, AND you are all happy because it's finally Friday, but then you realize it's only Thursday, your day has taken an almost certain downhill plunge.
And, if you accidentally wake up at four-thirty in the morning, and it's raining, and you are all happy because it's finally Friday, but then you realize it's only Thursday, AND you have tests or quizzes of some sort in three out of four classes that day....you just know that it's going to be a bad day.

I was ready for one of, you know, those days. Like the one pictured in this cartoon:

I did not, however, have a terrible day. My powers of telling the future of this day were wrong. The first very good thing was walking into second block English class I saw, not my usual, extremely annoying, gets-on-my-nerves-so-much-every-class teacher, but a very funny substitute. Score one for a good day.
All my quizzes and tests were not hard either....and I was assigned minimal homework. Two more bonuses. The day was really looking up, and so here I am now typing this post and the rest of my day doesn't seem that awful either.
I'm just going to do my minimal bit of homework, chill and head to spring jazz rehearsal. I'm excited for this because (assuming my brother brings it home) I get to play trombone :)
I haven't gotten to play some decent 'bone in quite some time and I miss it, so this will be good.

The moral of this post? Don't make assumptions. They can be very wrong.

I Chopped Off My Hair Today

Or rather, someone else, namely, the hair stylist, did. (Good gracious that sentence had a lot of of commas) Anyway, yes, I got my hair chopped off rather nicely around midday.
For the past few years my hair has been medium length, kinda wavy, nothing special. It could be cute, it could be a real pain. I could do cool things with it sometimes, but usually it lay down because me + my hair in interesting styles tends to be disastrous.
My hair was getting to the point where it was too long for me, it was starting to look gross, become harder to train to stay in place (not that it was ever easy...) all the layers became drastically different lengths, the split ends were piling up, so I made my mother drive me down to SuperCuts.

This is how my hair looked a couple weeks ago on the Saddleback trip:

Blahhh. I needed something short, cute, and funky. So, I took a risk, chopped of 6-8 inches of hair, put in a ton of choppy layers, changed my part to the side and came out with a new, fresh, springy look.

Cute, yes? I <3 it. I haven't had my hair this short since...um...second grade. That, my friends, is a long time. At my brother's honors band concert this afternoon Lucy was exclaiming how much she loved it...because it made us look even more alike. (People are ALWAYS mixing us up for some reason...) Other people, like my friend Isabella, are going to be horrified when I walk into school on Monday. (Isabella specifically said to me yesterday 'DO NOT CUT YOUR HAIR' Sorry Bella....) All in all, it's been a pretty good day :)

One of the good 'ole days

Haha. Today has been pretty good- and what makes it even better is that there's still a bit more to come! This is going to be a kinda random post, but that's ok, right? Anyway.....

After breakfast me and XanFan and the cousins countinued our game 'War' (the card game) for a while and we brought the laptop out and listened to my playlist too. They love the Owl City, and so do I! Afterwards we went outside and XanFan and I threw the softball/baseball around and then all four of us went into a neighboring field for some whiffle ball. It was so nice out that when we were done, we ran back to the house exclaiming that we should have a picnic lunch over in the field! We did just that. It was very fun :) After lunch some storm clouds were rolling in but XanFan and I stayed outside and whipped the baseball back and forth for some more- even when it started to pour! Soon after, the clouds cleared up and we went on a two mile hike along the 'Shore Path'. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera! Sadness. It was very pretty! We came home after that and watched the movie 'Old Dogs'. It was funny! LOL. Anyway, that's where we are now. We're about to have dinner- Everyone else is having meatloaf with bacon, but I've got myself a nice stuffed portebella mushroom! After supper is our evening ritual game of.....Apples to Apples! Best game on the planet if you ask me. Only other new news is that get ready for A new profile pic coming soon- I've been working on one these past few days with Xanfan. See ya!

Yawn....

Boy am I tired. Let me go through the day with you:

Got to school wicked early (6:40ish) because I had forgotten my French homework, so I had to go do that.

Training jazz band, with intense piano parts.

French, which was fun :)

Social Studies doing more research on the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire and trial.

Science, where we  watched yet another boring video on the evolution of the Earth.

Gym, where I ran 2 1/2 miles

Lunch, where I ate everything in sight because I was hungry after all that running.

A math class that was tiring on my brain.

LA where I finally submitted my DuPont competition essay (Grand Prize is $20,000 and a trip to Disney!)

Band, great as always

Report Cards, let's not discuss it.

And then a performance jazz rehearsal from 2:15-4. But we got pizza after so......yeah.

And now we are going to a high school basketball game that I don't really want to go to because I just wanna relax for heaven's sake!

Snow, Fundraiser, Honors Band, Etc.

Yeah yeah. My life is really busy so this is a kinda random post, but oh well. It should give you some good insights on my life.

Snow: It just won't stop! Well, i guess it does, for a few hours. But then it comes back drifting softly down. Ahhhhh..............

Fundraiser: Operation Help Haiti is underway! Anna13 and I have posters up all around the school and I put in a couple of announcements as well. We are doing a bake sale at the intermission of the drama production on Friday. I'm excited because I like fundraisers to be FUNdraisers.

Honors Band: Was hilarious. As usual. =]

Trombone Case: I finally got my new one!!!! It's all black, and wicked lightweight, and the best part is that is not plaid and broken like my old one.

Semester: Ends Friday!!! Thankfully, with all the work I did over the weekend, I am ALL caught up from when I was sick. I know I have at least honors, if not high honors.

A New Sidebar Gadget: Yep, this is the 'Praying For...' text gadget. I tried to make it be scrolling pictures, but it wasn't working :'(  Anyway, you can see that I have put some up already, because I've been reading about some concerns in some bloggers lives, and if you want to submit a prayer request you can on this post, or on my next post which will be the official one for that :)

Looking into the future...

Wow. Good day today but what I'm talking about is our peek into the future, and of high school. After hearing the principal at the high school talk, I'm actually pretty excited, yet kinda sad because I really like the school that I'm at. Anyway we talked about all the classes and electives and clubs and stuff. And all the credits you need to graduate. But I won't go into all the boring details I'll just tell you what I'm going to take next year. (I haven't actually signed up yet, that will happen on January 12th)

Clubs and After-School activities (more might be added, it depends)

Marching Band
1 or 2 of the Jazz Bands
The Musical (either having a part or playing in the pit)

Classes (certainly going to happen!)

English (9)
Phys. Ed.
Math II
French II
World History
Honors Biology
Concert Band
Wind Ensemble

In high school I'm really only going to be playing trumpet family stuff (the band director already wants me to be trying fluglehorn!) And then if I make Jazz Ensemble on trumpet I'll probably try the Jazz 2 band on trombone. But mostly just trumpet, cornet, and fluglehorn, I think.

So yeah. That's my plan for clubs and classes next year. Exciting! Other kids from my school: What are you thinking about for next year? (If you're graduating from 8th grade this year)

Today's Slightly Interesting Classes

Sitting in workshop and there's really nothing to do so I guess I'll just write about my classes today :)

Got to school at 7:35, threw everything into my locker and promptly went to the band room. There, Bella and Queen of the Bass Clef hung out talking and helping Mrs Barry get set up for the day before the bell rang. Fun, and it's really good to e helpful to your band director during concert week because they get reeeeeally stressed out. :)

First class of the day was French (Bonjour, mon amis!) and we had fun just telling about our weekends. Tomorrow we get back to work conjugating verbs. Next was Social Studies where we began to watch another 'R' rated movie. It's pretty funny that the 2 'R' rated movies I've seen have been in Social Studies class! (Of course they relate to the subject at hand, we watched 'Glory' last year when we were leaning about the Civil War and today we began 'Murder in Mississippi' because we are learning about the civil rights movement of the '60's)

Science wasn't that bad today. Elránia and I were lab partners doing a little light experiment. Not that bad. Also found out that not only is there Google Earth, but Google Moon, Google Mars, and Google Sky. SOOOOO COOL!!!

After Science was Band!!!! Woot woot! just worked on all our pieces for he concert. C'est trés bonne! Fantastique! (Sorry non French speakers, I'm trying to incorporate French into my speaking more)

Lunch was good, and after lunch I had Math where we reviewed for tomorrow's test, which was nice and then we worked on our research projects in LA. And finally, in workshop, I did this awesome post! YAY!!!!!!!!!

A tag {and other wicked cool stuff}

Before I get to the 2 tags I have today I'll do a little update: school went well today, and I am pretty confident in how my French quiz went. (Anyone who can conjugate all the forms of the verb 'to be' in French, and define them will get a prize!) And I can finally read my music again! Yay! Here's a snapshot of conversation that took place right before training jazz this morning. I'll use CC for me and BD for my band director. (Some background info is that there are 3 people in the rhythm section {bass, piano, drum set, aux., vibes} )

(CC working on her walking bass part, 2 drummers playing, BD walks over)

BD: I have some ideas for how this section should be run

(They then go over who's is playing what for the songs)

BD: Now for the several jazz exercises we do at the beginning, I want you 3 to rotate every little piece between vibes/aux., bass, and drum set, OK?

(others nod heads)

CC: No.

BD: You can play drum set.

CC: No. I can't. I have never played it in my life!

BD: Good time to start then! Go on you're up first.

CC: You have got to be kidding me. I don't know how to use all four limbs at once and I don't even have drumsticks!

BD: Nick, let me have your drumsticks

CC: You're joking.

BD: Time to start!

So yeah. THAT was sure fun......

(Well......kinda. REALLY)
