Happy Thanksgiving! (i.e. I'M BACK)

NaNoWriMo.....let's just not talk about it. I've learned over the past few years that my life is just too busy to write a novel in a month. So let's not talk about it. Thank you.

But this means I'm back blogging I guess. It's been a busy month.....

First quarter of school ended at the beginning of the month and I finished with great grades, as always. We actually got a first look at our transcripts too, and I was very happy to see my 4.0 GPA. 

I've been quite busy with music too. Marching band is officially over; we played the Veteran's Day parade, and had our final banquet. For the banquet, all off the seniors made the underclassmen special 'paper plate awards' and I got 'Most dedicated'. That's pretty cool. I also got this sweet trophy for being recognized as one of three of the best musicians in our band of over eighty people. I was extremely excited about that one. Jazz season has started and I'm playing trumpet in our top band and trombone in our second band. Fiddler pit band rehearsals will also be starting after vacation which will be quite awesome. 

I've had some gigs to play for too. I accompanied a jazz piece at a piano recital, and got to play trumpet and flugelhorn at my church fair last Saturday. I'm working on a piece for an advent vespers service as well. I'm also directing my church's Christmas pageant which has made me EXTREMELY busy.

Anyway...that's what I've been up to. The short version anyway. So with all of that, it's been nice to get away and spend this week relaxing in Vermont. It's very snowy here, and cold, and very very quiet and chill. Excellent.

Rainy Day Here To Stay

Welcome to fall, the season of rain. Cold rain. Here in Maine, in terms of precipitation, we have the season of snow, followed by the season of light warm rain and mud, and then the season of storms, and finally the season of cold hard rain.

It certainly is feeling quite fall-like at this time. There's a definite chill in the air, a crisp edge to the wind and the cold soaking feeling of the rain. None the less, I love fall. LOVE. IT. I enjoy these rainy days, I like curling up with a blanket and a steaming cup of cocoa while the rain pours down. In fact, that's what I would LIKE to be doing right now, but t will still be quite a few hours before that will happen. About 3 and a half actually. Instead I'm sitting in my chem offlab (otherwise known as my very infrequent study hall) typing up this post and freezing because this school is so darn temperamental in its temperature. When it's hot outside, it's scorching inside, when it's cold outside, it's like an igloo inside. 

I really just want to go home.

Really.

This study hall is stupid.

And boring.

Get.

Me.

Out.

Of.

Here.

Please?

My other classes this morning were not so bad. Real Life was OK, and APUSH was actually really good and fun! I am liking the class a LOT more than I thought I would. French will be tedious as my last block, and this study hall is torturous. 

Hate study hall. Hate it. 

You know what? This post was supposed to be about loving fall, and rainy days and it turned into a tirade against study hall.

I apologize. 

But maybe I should just end this post, and wish a was at home with some hot chocolate and stop boring you to death?

Doing Nothing?

Well this is certainly a change...

I've been crazily busy all summer and now I can just, well, relax! 

(Or as close to relaxing as my life can get...lol)

Yesterday we took my brother to camp, Pilgrim Lodge, to a week that I have been to many times that is totally awesome, and that he should really love. That was fun because a lot of my friends who are a year younger than I am go to that week and so I got to see a bunch of them which was nice.

Last night the 25th anniversary concert of Les Mis was on PBS so, naturally, I had to watch it. The whole concert thing was really really cool but I didn't like that they skipped some parts and changed some of the words. It was still very good though and I'm glad I watched it because I needed a nice heavy dose of Les Mis :)

It's a pretty lazy day around here, I washed my trumpet, wrote a letter, memorized the whole opener to our marching band show, read a bit, did some of my APUSH (Advanced Placement United States History) summer homework (YUCK!) and then sat down to write this blog post. Not really sure what to do with the rest of my day, I'm kind of bored already.

While it IS nice to not be crazy busy...it is kinda boring too....

Of Trampolines and Friendly Toes

Hello everyone! Yesterday, well, last night actually, I spent the night at my dear friend Lucy's house. As always we had lots of fun bouncing on her trampoline and naming a photograph 'friendly toes' among other things. She was feeling a little left out that she was going away and not going to be around during the whole guest post fest this summer, so we thought we would do a little conversation post for today because we haven't had one of those in a while. I'll morph into a potato and sit on the couch doing something completely unproductive. Ya know, the usual.

Oh Lucy...I think I will do lots of trumpet playing (the usual), I need to practice a piece that I'm playing in church on Sunday, an audition and solo piece I need for band camp, and also Bring Him Home for next week at camp. Oh and I'm getting this reiki attunement thing which is like opening up a channel in you for energy to flow and I can like send good energy to people through my hands. It's pretty cool.

So you could send good happy energy to say, our dear friend Ttam? 

Who is Ttam? Wait, I don't wanna know.....SUBJECT CHANGE!

He's in your section, silly goose. But how about we change the subject to cheesecake?

I am pretty sure that on every conversation post we've ever had you have changed the subject to cheesecake. Now how many times do I need to tell you that I HATE CHEESECAKE! Although I do find Louie Armstrong's song 'Cheesecake' quite entertaining.

Ttam likes cheesecake. 

Lucy, you are not prolonging the lifespan of this conversation. Besides, I am getting very hungry for strawberries.

Sometimes Facebook can be terribly annoying....sometimes I just can't help but love it. 

I was playing around with my settings this morning making sure everything was the way it should be when I clicked on 'languages'. Well, I thought, it's pretty simple what language I want to be in- English so I can always read it! Little did I know there were four English languages to choose from...

Feeling Blah

Yeah, Sally's feeling sick. Got some kind of flu-like thing so I'm home from school. This means a few things.

One, I'm sitting on the couch, writing this blog post, drinking tea, and have a TON of tissues around.

Another would be that I'm blasting the Owl City. I love Owl City....I recently heard their new single 'Alligator Sky' which was pretty cool, you should check it out if you're a fan. I'm very excited for the whole new album, All Things Bright And Beautiful to come out in May. I'll certainly be buying that on iTunes as soon as it comes out and trying to get some of the songs from it on my playlist :)

Today I am also hoping to get some good reading time in. One thing I do not like very much about having a busy schedule is that any free time I have is often spent doing homework, not reading. Blah.

I am also thinking about FRANCE. We are leaving in only sixteen days! Eeep! So exciting....my parents and I want to do a bunch of stuff there, go to a couple museums, Eiffel Towel, the Arch de Triumph, a World War II cemetery near Normandy, stuff like that as well as walking around eating crêpes on the streets that we bought from vendors, speaking in lots of French, eating french chocolates and pastries and breads and cheeses....

My brother on the other hand is a different story. He says 'NO HISTORICAL AND MUSEUM STUFF!!!!!'. He's very adamant about that....all he wants to do is sit around cafés eating baguette all day long. Oh dear. 

I know this has been a rambling post but I'd like to finish it with a picture. This is a picture I took on Friday at the jazz fest of one of the flute players music. I love taking pictures of music, but as I was editing it, my hand slipped and slid a couple of the editing bars and I clicked save at the same time. I thought my picture was probably ruined, but it turned out looking so cool! Here it is:

bella skye felt odd. there was no other way to put it, just...odd. somehow, for some reason, she felt like she was in a strange and different world, even though she was in the coop where she had been born and raised, had lived her whole life. she ruffled her black and white feathers to see if that would get the feeling out. it didn't. she sniffed the air- smelled the same. all the other chickens seemed normal and unbothered, content to simply strut around pecking food off the ground. was it only her that could feel the rush of suspense, like a surprise just waiting to happen? she decided to ask casablanca, the lead hen, about this. casablanca always knew what to do.


bella skye walked through all the other chickens, past the little puffy chicks that had hatched only a week previously to where casablanca stood. 'hello.' clucked bella skye. 


casablanca seemed to have not heard the young hen, and stared off into the space behind her.


'hello?' the smaller chicken asken nervously.


the lead hen seemed to go into a sort of trance, her eyes glazed, and when she spoke it was in a robotic monotone. "there will be ones, who come from other lands, they will come, and it will be either great triumph for our race, or doom, obliviation. they are coming."


in horror, bella skye watched as a great cloud seemed to cover the sun and she her loud engines whirring above her. the strangers had arrived...

Bagels + Music. Who Knew?

Who doesn't love a warm, freshly baked, toasted bagel, topped with you favorite cream cheese? I think my favorite two bagels are a sea salt bagel from Scratch Bakery, served cold with just plain bagel, or a toasted everything bagel from Mister Bagel with yummy veggie cream cheese. Ooh. I'm really starting to crave bagels just writing about them! I must remedy that.

*Runs downstairs*

Darn. No bagels in the kitchen...oh well. I've got a couple slices of pizza from dinner last night, that will make a good snack once I'm done with this post.

Anyway, if bagels themselves are so awesome, what happens when you combine bagels with my favorite thing EVER- music?

Ahh, the result would be interesting, wouldn't you think?

Well, this is a story of music and bagels.

Yesterday, we had a sub in band, so we all just sat around and treated it like a study hall. I was sitting with my friends Hannah, Cara, and Isabella and we were talking a bunch, but I was also bored. They all had had homework assigned in their previous class but I had none, and 85 minutes is a long time to sit around doing nothing, plus I had forgotten my Harry Potter book at home which made me sad. So. 

First I was like 'Oh, I should do some practicing.' But all the practice rooms were taken. 

Then I thought 'I'll work on the coda of 'Bring Him Home'. But my chord changes and basic outline of the song were...at home. So basically I ended up right back where I started. And I'm not sure how it started but either Hannah or Cara was like 'Write us a song, Sally! About bagels!' And they went on to explain how it needed to have noises that went 'whoop! whoop! whoop!' and it needed to start out really chill, and then be all attack like and then slow and pretty and happy. Oh, and there had to be chanting of 'Bagels, bagels, oh my soul.' included. 

So yesterday, I wrote them a song about bagels. And it was probably the most fun I have ever had arranging or composing and I was laughing throughout the whole process. But the song came out quite nice actually, and I have the computer recording in this video for you to listen to. However, please be warned that this recording is simply AWFUL. It pays no attention to dynamics, tempos, balance, articulations, fermatas, etc. Plus the slide whistle doesn't, uh, slide and make the 'whoop! whoop!' sound it's supposed to and the clarinet sounds like a 5th grader is playing it. Quite annoying actually. Soon, hopefully, we will have a much better recording that we play. But now I present you with my composition of:

I'm not dead yet!

Hello everyone, long time, no see type! Life's been pretty crazy since I last left you, but I had a moment now so I thought that I'd sit down and type out a little post here, about halfway through my break to let you all know what I've been up to.

My first semester of high school ended on Monday! (it was pushed forward a day because of a snow day) I studied like crazy for my midterms and was very happy to get high scores on all of them, and end up with high honors- all A's - for the quarter! Woot! Glad that's over....that stressor is gone. I was extremely pleased with my final project for history. These cute little warriors I told you about previously. Of course the biggest thing going one is LES MIS. And let me tell you, it is so awesomeincredibleepicintensecoolbestthingever. Being in the pit is just so cool, playing along to these great singers, in just about the best show ever.

*bounces off walls in excitement* I cannot believe our first show of six is next Friday evening- a meer week from today! Thankfully I have no worries that we'll be completely prepared. EEEP!!!! SO REALLY REALLY HYPER AND EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!

The Clock Ticks Down

The clock ticks down. Slooooooooooooooooooowly. It's one of those ugly school clocks, that seems to always run slow with that little red second hand going slowly round. Round and round and round as it tick tocks through the day.

It's the last day of school before break. So it's going REAAAAAALLY slowly. Thankfully it shouldn't be that bad of a day considering the fact that first block is study hall, second period English is a joke, we're doing fun stuff in French, and well, geometry will be the same as always, but you can't get EVERYTHING you wish for. So today I thought I'd let you have some holiday insight into what I'm up to.

I FINALLY found my holiday Peace shirt that I've been looking for for forever and I was really glad it turned up- right before Christmas! YAYYYYY! {Can you tell I'm hyper?}

Earlier in study hall I was bored, as usual, so I took some markers and drew a little holiday design. Isn't it cute?

I love watching those old little kid Christmas movies. They are EXCELLENT. And on Sunday I got to watch 'A Year Without A Santa Claus', and just to set this straight.......SNOW MISER IS SO TOTALLY MORE EPIC AND AWESOME THAN HEAT MISER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just An Update (Because I Have The Time)

Shhhh.....it's not really me......I'm really not posting this.......

But yeah I am. I'm not back, but I decided to just do a little more than a quick update, 'cause I've got the time.

It's gonna be random, folks.

So marching band is over, we have our banquet, in a couple weeks, and jazz band has started! Elránia and I have been working hard on When You Believe for December 12th.
Also pit band will be starting soon for our school's production of Les Miserables which is ohsoexciting.
Next weekend is our church's annual church fair in which I will be complimenting the atmosphere with lovely Christmas tunes on my trumpet.
And speaking of my trumpet, Wednesday was my one year anniversary of buying it!!!!!! I love you pretty Xeno.....here's to many more years together!

In the school world, we finished our first quarter one week ago. Honor roll for me :)
We had our 3rd biology test today on 'evidence of evolution and speciation' and it took me a whole two hours to complete. Love biology, my teacher's awesome, despise the tests.
So not looking forward to my final and SAT at the end of the year.
In gym today we played with basketballs, with apparently are little balls of evil static energy. Seriously, I picked one up, it gave me a major shock and my hair went POOF! Sigh.....

Just Sitting...

So I've got some random stuff for you right now. Enjoy!

Public schoolers, do you KNOW how loud a pep rally is? The marching band played the Star Spangled Banner and before all that it was just SO EXTREMELY CRAZY LOUD. I probably wouldn't do very well at a rock concert. ;) Anyway, I was really happy when I found out that we didn't have to stay and that we could just hang in the band room for the rest of the school day. Thank goodness!

 The past few days we have been doing this AWESOME project in biology. We've been working with the microscopes and different lenses and we just finished this cool project today. We chose five items of the natural world and then looked at them under the different objectives and sketched them, etc. It's super cool when you get to 400x and you cannot only see the individual cells, but the organelles inside them as well! Just think....the 3rd smallest thing in the universe. Cell organelles. (After sub-atomic particles and atoms) But the best part? I've used my camera to take pictures through the microscope, and it's totally rocking. I'll share them soon :)

I'm off to Olive's party soon, but I still need to wrap her present, write her card and pack.....shouldn't take me that long. :) I probably won't be able to post tomorrow, due to the party, show, and dance, but I promise to post pics on Sunday.

School... {a random post}

Yawn. You know what you guys? It is FREEZING cold here.

So maybe, 61º really isn't all that bad, but after a summer where days in the 90's were frequent, it's more then chilly. I *thought* I had dressed for the weather this morning when I put on jeans, a nice long-sleeved shirt, long socks and my converse, but I was so cold in all of my classes! Bella seemed to be quite cold as well, but Elránia...good grief. She was in a tank top and capris, and was complaining of the heat! 

The school day seemed to go slowly because of the cold too. Study hall was very long and boring (and there was a window open too!), in English we did a bunch of stuff (but there was still an open window) and then I met up with Bella and Elránia in French and rounded off the day with (:P) Geometry. After school I went to a meeting for our school newspaper, and guess what! I'm gonna be a photographer! I'm really excited, this should be really fun.

Other news I guess is that our first marching band show is on Saturday! I'm really happy, I've been waiting for so long it seems like. So I thought you might want to hear what the original music sounds like- and now imagine it in marching band style. It's pretty sweet. (These are actually it the order of the show.

(As a random side note, my lawn is orange. Yes, orange. It dried up really badly during the heat wave, and now the rain is saturating it, turning what was once a lush green lawn into a bunch of orange grass. Gross.)

Just An Update

Well, I don't have much of one topic to focus on in this post, but I do have some little insights and ramblings to share so, well, yeah. And because I'm *so* organized I'll even write out a little table of contents for you all.

So. The world cup. The finals are on right now, but I'm not watching (duh. I'm writing this post). I guess I'm just not that interested- but I have decided that I needed to choose a team to at least cheer on. So I chose the Netherlands. Go Orange!

Earlier I think that I might have mentioned that we're trying to figure out getting me a desk for my room. It became apparent that it would be good to have one during this past school year when many days I would came home from school and I was stuck on the couch in the office with my laptop and all my books and binder strewed around me. But anyway, this whole desk thing has turned into a cool project. Yesterday, my mom and I went to staples and got four stackable dark blue milk crates. Those will be the sides and supports of my desk and I can use the crates for storage too! We also picked out this awesome vibrant teal swirly chair. Now all I have to do is paint a piece of plywood my desired color, lay it across the top and TA DA! One perfectly suitable desk and chair, all for around $60. Not bad at all. :)

Eep! Only seven more weeks of summer! I thought I'd just lay out my schedule and stuff. This week (July 11-17) there's not much going on except for XanFan's 11th birthday (I survived last night!) tomorrow and of course, the conclusion of the writing contest at the end of the week! From the 18-24 of July I unfortunately will NOT be able to post (*sob*) because *drumroll* I'm gonna be at band camp! Oh my gosh. Been looking forward to it ever since it ended LAST year! The last week in July I'll be around except for about a day when I'll (hopefully) be out on Snow Island with Olive Tree. So fun! Next week I'll be in Cape May, NJ, week after that it'll be back to PL, week after THAT Xanfan will be at PL, the last full week in August is when marching band starts (*squeals*) and finally on September 1st, we're back at school. Phew! Busy summer! :)

An ingenious idea

Even though I'll be away for all of next week without a computer.....YOU CAN'T GET RID OF ME!!! :) Why? Because I, Cornet Crazie, have created a post for every single day next week for you to read while I'm away. You will not have to be deprived of my writings which could lead you to great distress until my return. So I say thank you THANK YOU to the wonder of scheduled posts from saving us from this tragedy.

Just a quick post...

So I don't have a lot of time because I'm in workshop (study hall) and school gets out in 11 minutes but oh well. This will be quick.

Today was a good Friday. We had two subs.... :P but it wasn't that bad. In fact- I strongly preferred our science sub to our regular teacher! Haha.

But there were no band classes for me, so sadness....

After school I've got a pizza party with all the jazz members from this year...and 8th graders all get special awards. And they are HILARIOUS. I can't wait to see which one I got!

Another great thing is that our laptops were supposed to be taken away today but there was a change of plan and they are really being taken away on Monday. :)

So I guess I'll wrap up this sloppy, choppy post and I promise I'll post something better either later tonight or tomorrow morning.
