A Flurry Of Auditions

Well! Auditions for this year's festivals are over for me (no more Hornpipe and Sweet Georgia Brown - thank goodness because I'm sick of them both), and the results are in!

DISTRICT HONORS:

Tuesday was my audition for district honors concert band. I've been in honors band for the past four years (that's every year since sixth grade...) and I always have a lot of fun and get a good chair. I thought my audition for this went so so much better than last year's so I was feeling good about it. And out of the thirty-five people in the district who auditioned on trumpet.....I was fourth best! Fourth chair = first part which is better than I was hoping for. I figured I would be playing second trumpet given the competition and because I knew I could have played the piece better, so I'm really happy about my placement!

JAZZ ALL-STATE

Last Friday (As I told you in a post) I auditioned for jazz all-state. The competition for this is HUGE as trumpet is a very very popular instrument, and besides, it's within the whole state, not just the district. As a sophomore, I know I'm a very good player, but because they only take eleven trumpets I knew my odds were not necessarily in my favor. However, I had been working on this piece since March, went into the audition feeling prepared, and ended up having a very very solid audition. Yay me. Anyway, I felt that even if I didn't get in, I really did do my best, and I would be OK with that.
While waiting for results, I did a little research on what the composition of the three jazz all-state bands are. There's a combo which is basically a lot of improv, a regular jazz band, and an honors jazz band. The best improvisier and soloist goes to the combo, and the other top ten trumpets go into the other two bands - the first five to honors and the second to regular. I figured that if I made it, I would be in regular jazz band but.......
I GOT THE FIFTH HIGHEST TRUMPET SCORE IN THE STATE!
Which means I'm in the honors jazz band, and also just about the fifth best high school jazz trumpet player in the state.

I am so happy.

Off To All-State

Hey everyone! I'm typing this while sitting on a bus to Augusta with ten other band geeks for jazz all-state auditions. I'm really excited, I've been preparing for this audition since March and I just want to go in, have fun with the audition and hopefully get in.

For the audition we have to play two major scales, a chromatic scale from low F sharp to high C, sightreading, and then the tune Sweet Georgia Brown, the etude to the same chord changes, and improv, so it's a pretty intense audition. This is the etude:

It's really fun actually. Very swing, very playable. It almost just plays itself which is pretty cool. Anyway I'm excited - Wish me luck! :)

PS- Jenny says "hi blog!"

*UPDATE* I'm on the way back from my audition - and it went really really well. I'm a very happy girl right now. Can't wait for results on Monday :)

Back to Marching

Well....not really.
But this afternoon I was with the rest of the marching band as we practiced for the Memorial Day Parade in a week. We were only inside doing music prep as we won't actually go out and march until parade day, but it was pretty awesome and fun nonetheless.
I honestly love marching band so much.
So much power in the music we play. The intensity. The complex drill movements.
Oh! I get shivers just thinking about it.
Sure, this is just a parade so we only have to march in a block and be able to play Stars and Stripes Forever with a fanfare and be able to snap our horns up and down, but still, it's marching band.

Playing in the band room today just playing with that totally awesome sound that only a marching band can get was just amazing. I lovelovelove it sososo much.
Of course it helps being the best band in the state....

Anyway, today has made me long for marching band season to come.
Because marching band is epic.
And we're doing music from the movie National Treasure, which has a great soundtrack.
And I officially signed up to be in the 2011 band today...
....and I was first on the list.....
And there are only 80 more days until it starts!
And I am super excited. Super. Excited.

Can you tell how much I love marching band? I'm so going to have to go to a college that has a good one.

Well, sorry for the hyper, excited post, I'm off to rock the house on trombone at jazz band!

Turning the Tables

When you accidentally wake up at four-thirty in the morning, an hour too early, this could be a sign that your day might not be the best.
If you accidentally wake up at four-thirty in the morning, AND it's raining, your day probably won't be so great.
If you accidentally wake up at four-thirty in the morning, and it's raining, AND you are all happy because it's finally Friday, but then you realize it's only Thursday, your day has taken an almost certain downhill plunge.
And, if you accidentally wake up at four-thirty in the morning, and it's raining, and you are all happy because it's finally Friday, but then you realize it's only Thursday, AND you have tests or quizzes of some sort in three out of four classes that day....you just know that it's going to be a bad day.

I was ready for one of, you know, those days. Like the one pictured in this cartoon:

I did not, however, have a terrible day. My powers of telling the future of this day were wrong. The first very good thing was walking into second block English class I saw, not my usual, extremely annoying, gets-on-my-nerves-so-much-every-class teacher, but a very funny substitute. Score one for a good day.
All my quizzes and tests were not hard either....and I was assigned minimal homework. Two more bonuses. The day was really looking up, and so here I am now typing this post and the rest of my day doesn't seem that awful either.
I'm just going to do my minimal bit of homework, chill and head to spring jazz rehearsal. I'm excited for this because (assuming my brother brings it home) I get to play trombone :)
I haven't gotten to play some decent 'bone in quite some time and I miss it, so this will be good.

The moral of this post? Don't make assumptions. They can be very wrong.

E & F are for Epically Fun

No, no, I didn't forget to post yesterday, I simply just simply didn't have the time! My day was totally jam packed, so I have combined days E & F together in this one post.

E & F are for Epically Fun

Yesterday was a great day, much improved over the dreadfulness of Monday. The school day itself could be described as so-so, pretty average, it was after school that was awesome.
April is nation jazz appreciation month, and to celebrate this, our music boosters organize a jazz band event called Jazzapalooza for all seven middle and high school jazz bands in our city.
Pretty much what happens at Jazzapalooza is the middle schoolers get to work with clinicians for the afternoon, everyone gets yummy pizza for dinner, and it ends with a great concert in the evening. Now, high schoolers don't do the clinics, but there were certainly plenty of us around and I was actually asked by my old band director if I would work with the trumpet sections in her two bands. I had a lot of fun doing that and after I was done....the trumpets sounded great! It was awesome. There was a really fun improv clinic too, which I got to participate in. Improv is really fun because basically you just have a couple of chords that you play, you've got a handful of notes to choose from, and you just go for it and jam. Totally epic and awesome. After a couple breaks and our three clinics it was pizza time. All the rest of the high schoolers were arriving and we had a great time. All my band friends were telling my brother how he REALLY needed to be in the marching band next year. We'll see if he decides to do that or not.
We mostly just chilled for a while afterwards. Did some jamming in the band locker room, tuned the middle school bands and just hung out before the concert. The concert.....was awesome. I got to sit in and double the lead trumpet part with my old two middle school jazz bands which was great and my high school jazz band did really well too. I did have one mini heart attack moment though....I got up on stage and realized that I only had half the pages to my second song. Yeah....Sally freak-out-on-stage moment right there. Luckily, it turned out that I had the piece memorized without knowing it so playing it without music was a breeze.
It truly was, an epically fun day :)

Jazzing It Up

As you know from yesterday's 4:30am blog post, yesterday was the state jazz festival! And let me tell you it was a super fun day. I got to the school at six and it was very funny because some people were in pajamas, and most were a bit more than half-asleep, and that includes myself. We headed out around six-thirty for our three and a half hour drive up north. Thank goodness it was a coach bus so we were comfortable :) It was probably one of the quietest rides on a band bus that I've ever had, probably because it was so early. I just killed the time by texting Lucy and reading some Harry Potter.
We did stop a little over halfway to get something to eat which made me very happy because by then I was STARVING! Some hashbrowns and and iced tea from Dunkin Donuts were just what I needed :) Finally we pulled in at the high school where the festival was being held. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot though, there were cries and groans of dismay from the whole band as we realized that we'd walked into a complete dead zone for cell phone coverage. This of course made my mother very worried that I wasn't answering her texts and so forth, because they couldn't come through. LOL.
We went up to our homeroom and once we dropped off our stuff, a good sized group of us went around to get a general idea of where things were, a good lay of the land. After that, we decided that if we didn't want our director to get mad at us we might as well go listen to one of the other band's combos so a few of us went to do that which was fun, and the others went to find food. The band was fairly good, but when they were done we had to go back to the homeroom and help our combo get ready. After the combo played we pretty much just chilled. Ate some food, talked a lot in the cafeteria, went to the combo awards, went back to the homeroom, listened to chill music, sung four part harmony to Jason Maraz's "I'm Yours", polished my trumpet until it gleamed so much it was painful to look upon it, until it was time for our warmup. Also, our band director was in a really good mood, making jokes and everything which is a real change from how he usually acts, let me tell you!
Our warmup was KILLER. I played a few notes and they sounded just amazing so I took it really slow and easy and our band just sounded really really great. All my nervousness totally dissipated because every good musician knows that you can only have a good performance if you have a good warmup. Warmups are so so very crucial. We went out to play at 4:30, and it was awesome. I was TOTALLY on fire, which I was super happy about because I played loud, high, and strong, my solo was great, and the whole band was nailing it. It was certainly one of the best times we played our songs, and finally, FINALLY I was playing exactly like the lead trumpet player my band director wanted me to play like. After performing, I was so happy. We had more chill time before the awards so I grabbed more food, and me and a friend had a lot of fun at one of the table in the cafeteria where they had lots of instrument and mouthpieces for students to try out. We had fun playing some sweet trombones and trying out about a million different trumpet mouthpieces. Then came our awards ceremony and our band got SECOND PLACE. We were so amazingly happy. Ahh, what can I say? I was an amazing day; I love hanging with the band, I love being a band geek.

I Should Be Sleeping

I....cannot...believe...I....am....actually.....typing.....out...this.....post...cause....I'm...pretty....sure...I'm..falling......back......................asleep.

*slaps self to wake up*

Yeah. Take a look at the time stamp on this post, or don't because you'll be shocked.
The time stamp says 4:30am, and it's not lying. I should be sleeping. I should be curled up in bed for another hour plus a few minutes. I should be dreaming, I should be gathering my energy for yet another school day. I should not be awake, typing this post.

So why am I up? Because of my band dedication, what else? Today is day one of the state jazz festival, and my band's performance day. And even though my band doesn't actually play for another twelve hours exactly, and the combo that's playing today doesn't go on until noon, we have to be at the school at six, leaving at six-thirty for our three and a half hour drive northward. Yay....

It's not all bad though, we get a long luxurious bus ride on a coach bus with all my very good band friends, who are hilarious (and inclusive to freshman which is very nice too), AND our band has actually started sounding REALLY good, and our director finally started giving us compliments, which is a first, lol.

But still....4:30....

Pain, Tornadoes, And Other (More Cheerful) Points of Interest

Hey everyone! I'm back! (Well, of course I am! I'm writing this post, aren't I?) I missed you guys so much over the past week and there were several moments when I really, really, wanted to post about something- but I didn't have a computer, :( , so I guess I just have to squeeze it all into one big post!

From the title, you may conclude that my week may not have been very good, but on the contrary, (aside from a few things) band camp was excellent! I'll start with the topic of the music.

I'd been working on my audition pieces for the concert band and jazz band since May, so even though I was nervous going into the audition, I was not a complete wreak or anything. Anyway, it went super well, and I ended up getting second chair in concert band and second chair in the top jazz band! (You might remember that it was my goal to get 1st or 2nd chair in both) I was soooo happy. That meant I would be playing the first part (in concert band) and if their were any solos/duets I would have a really good shot at them. There did end up being a duet in our second song in concert band that I got to play with another trumpeter from my school, and it went really well. All the songs were really fun to play in both jazz and concert band and it was awesome playing the top first parts in everything! (Although {and this is the pain part} everything was *super* high and so my face hurt SO bad!)

Now, that's the music summary, and here's a story:

It was Tuesday night and I could not sleep at all. Evidently, camp food was making me rather sick. I finally drifted off around 4am, but I missed all the rehearsals on Wednesday because I was still sick. (sadness) By the evening however, I was feeling reasonably OK, so I was able to accompany the rest of the camp to Funtown. (You probably remember this place from when my 8th grade band went) anyway, we got there at around 5:30 and started having fun! I couldn't eat anything or go on many rides, but I still was having a good time. It was a beautiful day! It was warm and there weren't many clouds; the only thing to make it better would have been if I was feeling better.

I was on the bumper cars with a bunch of other camp kids and the ride was about to start when the camp director whips out his iPhone, checks the Doppler radar and says "There's a tornado warning in {insert name that campus is in}."  (in my state, tornadoes are, like, terrible storms that never come near us.) Anyway, after hearing this news I'm a little edgy, and some of us go off for food. We're eating and drinking out sodas, and talking when the thunder begins. (As a side note- through this whole experience I am furiously texting my parents, because things are starting to get a little freaky...) At first it's just a little rumble here and there, a booming sound in the background. But after about twenty minutes or so, there's a little flash of lightning. Through texts, I've found out that there's a really big storm heading towards us; all red on the Doppler. Counselors are talking urgently on cell phones, while the rumbles and flashes become less random. Finally we all end up under a large tent covering one of the picnic areas. I'm looking out over the parking lot were the clouds are boiling in the sky- black and as ominous as death. I try to breathe deeply and relax but it's impossible with the given climate. There are several tornadoes that have touched down. One went really close to campus, so they had to close it down. And the scariest of all- There are tornadoes coming towards us. Everything is getting so intense and scary, I just want to be at home, or at least back in my dorm room, but we're not even on the buses yet! The mega storm is about to strike when a Funtown employee comes barreling around a conner screaming "CODE BLACK! CODE BLACK! EVACUATE FUNTOWN! THERE ARE TORNADOES; GET YOUR KIDS OUT OF HERE!!!!" It was pretty crazy. We ran like crazy to the buses and as soon as we got in it was upon us. The rain came down so hard it was like we were at the bottom of a lake. The thunder was constantly there, and the lightning continuous. I was so afraid that a tornado was going to come out of nowhere and run us all over. I prayed so hard, and somehow, amazingly, it narrowly missed us, and the storm passed over. We drove back and stayed in safe place until we could go up to our dorm rooms. We didn't have power, but that didn't matter. We were safe.

And that, my friends, was my extremely frightening Wednesday evening.

Tomorrow I've got a long tag from Izori, Olive Tree, Elrania, and Bella and sometime this coming week I do have a post that I'd like to do on a couple cool reflections I had this past week. have a wonderful evening!

Band Camp- One Week Of Heaven

With the posts these next few days centered around the end of the contest and winners, I realized that I probably wouldn't be able to do a post about band camp before I left! So, well, this is it. Band camp starts on Sunday and this also means that I'll be saying goodbye to you all for another week. (*sob*) Other than that, band camp is like one week of heaven- for the most obsessive band geeks. Why is it heaven? Just look at the daily schedule for Monday-Friday!

Just awesome. On Sunday of course, we do less since check-in is between 12 and 2 and we have to do auditions and get music and all that jazz but still. The above schedule for 5 whole days??? Awesome. I've been working on my audition pieces for soooo long and they sound really good; I want to make first trumpet in bother concert and jazz band so that's why I've been working so hard :) Anyway, that's where I'll be next week.

Remember- CONTEST ENDS TOMORROW @ MIDNIGHT!

6.10.2010

You want amazing? I'll give you AMAZING.

Last night was just.....incredible. (Incroyable!) In case you did not know, it was my final band concert and I couldn't have hoped for it to be any better. Conducting the band was ohsomuchfun, although it was strange having my back to the audience- but I think that the jazz band played that song (Green Onions) the best that they'd ever played it. Was fun :)

The 8th grade band also wanted to do something special for Mrs Barry at the end of the concert so yesterday morning I made a giant card and throughout the day me and Bella and Liam were able to have everyone sign it with a little note and then before the last song me, Bella, Liam and Jakob presented it to her with an 'elaborate and awesome' boquet of flowers and some chocolate. She was really happy and everything was great.

Concert band was just.......phenomanal. For the people who had solos- they were extremely good!!

So that was it! My final 8th grade concert *sob*. Well, in other news:
  1. Grades
closed yesterday so I don't have to do ANY MORE WORK in middle school
  2. We get our high school schedules today!!!!
  3. We get our yearbooks today and get to sign them during last period.

Craziest Week Ever- Tuesday (Afternoon)

My, how the days pass by quickly! Yesterday went all according to plan, (YAY! screams the dominant perfectionist side of me) and my trumpet is looking especially nice and pretty after its wash :) Today was good too with the 5th grade step-up day and stuff. I was glad to have a chance to practice my conducting in front of an audience before the real concert. It went fine. Today was also my LAST jazz practice and my LAST full band rehearsal. Double sadness.*cries like a baby* (jk on the last part- but it was kinda sad) We're sounding really good and I'm so crazy excited for the concert :) So yep. Week's going by fast-- but at least it's fun!

6.05.2010

An Ideal Forecast

Thunderstorms all day!!!!! There's a huge chance that XanFan's baseball game and my softball games will be canceled- and I'm serious. I'd like it to be that way. that way I can spend the day inside doing homework and working on cards for my teachers because I don't think that I'm going to have any time for that this week. My aunt is also coming up to stay for the day and if the games are indeed canceled- me, my aunt and my mom will go shopping. :) I still need my sandals, a bathing suit and some frames for my pictures. That'll be fun.

On another note, remember yesterday when I told you how at the pizza party all the 8th graders would get awards? Yeah? Mine was the: It's OK if Mrs Barry isn't here, because SALLY IS! award, which was funny. They were all really great and she would tell these little stories about each person before she gave the award which was fun.

I'm off to eat some breakfast- a sea salt bagel from the bakery down the street. Yum!

6.04.2010

Just a quick post...

So I don't have a lot of time because I'm in workshop (study hall) and school gets out in 11 minutes but oh well. This will be quick.

Today was a good Friday. We had two subs.... :P but it wasn't that bad. In fact- I strongly preferred our science sub to our regular teacher! Haha.

But there were no band classes for me, so sadness....

After school I've got a pizza party with all the jazz members from this year...and 8th graders all get special awards. And they are HILARIOUS. I can't wait to see which one I got!

Another great thing is that our laptops were supposed to be taken away today but there was a change of plan and they are really being taken away on Monday. :)

So I guess I'll wrap up this sloppy, choppy post and I promise I'll post something better either later tonight or tomorrow morning.

See ya!

*note to self* pick up 8th grade social permission slip in office after school.....

insane and inspirational

Wow. I was SO tired after this morning I seriously was about to fall asleep in math class this afternoon! Wanna hear all about the craziness? It was certainly NOT a normal morning :)

So I'm at school at bit before 7am for jazz band and we run a good hard rehearsal from about 7:15 to 7:57ish. At that time I feverishly pack up my trombone, grab my cornet and begin my head section leader duties. We have marching practice from 8-10 officially and I'd guess we were back inside a little before 10. Then there's all the wrapping up details, etc, to be taken care of and around 10:05 we're dismissed back to class, but I'm still in the auditorium finalizing some things and packing up my cornet. I take my cornet and head upstairs stopping at the top to drop my cornet off in room 201 (Mrs Barry's room). I'm just stuffing my cornet onto the shelf when my principal's voice comes over the intercom. "Attention all students and staff. We are going into lockdown mode. Students, please go to the nearest classroom. We are in lockdown." So I think "Oh great. The lockdown drill." And go sit along the wall where we're supposed to. Two other students end up there as well and we had our lockdown drill. When it was finally over at almost 10:30, well, it was time for sectional! So we had our sectional and we were worked pretty hard. So yeah. That was my insane crazy morning.

Now for the inspirational part.  We're singing this amazing song in chorus called 'When You Believe' and it's from the movie 'Prince of Egypt'. Well I've never seen the movie, but this song is just incredible! Incroyable! (as you would say in French) The lyrics have such good meaning so I'd like to share them with you. (there is a section where we sing in Hebrew, but I'm going to skip that for obvious reasons like you wouldn't know what I was writing about.)

When You Believe

 Many nights we've prayed,
with no proof anyone could hear.
In our hearts a hopeful song,
We barely understood.

Now we are not afraid,
Although we know there's much to fear.
We were moving mountains long,
Before we knew we could.

There can be miracles,
When you believe.
Though hope is frail,
It's hard to kill.

Who knows what miracles,
You can achieve?
When you believe,
Somehow you will.

You will when you believe.

In this time of fear,
When prayer so often proved in vain.
Hope seemed like the summer birds,
Too swiftly flown away.

Yet now I'm standing here,
With heart so full I can't explain.
Seeking faith and speaking words,
I never thought I'd say.

There can be miracles,
When you believe.
Though hope is frail,
It's hard to kill.

Who knows what miracles,
You can achieve?
When you believe,
Somehow you will.

You will when you believe.

{Hebrew Section}
There can be miracles,
When you believe.
Though hope is frail,
It's hard to kill.

Who knows what miracles,
You can achieve?
When you believe,
Somehow you will.
Now you will.

You will when you believe.
You will when you believe.

A Rap Song For A Post

Doing this a little differently today...a rap song about my day for my post! This should be interesting...

So the day started out
With a little of jazz,
But Mrs Barry said the mallet part
Lacked pizazz.

So I switched to trombone,
And she liked that better,
But then I was late to French class;
Don't do that ever!

Then we had science testing,
All throughout the morning.
And won't lie,
It was very, very, boring!

With period four,
Comes my best class: band.
Where we play lots of music,
A trumpet in my hand.

Lunch was fun,
Eating salsa and chips,
But then it's back to science testing,
Question about an eclipse.

Finally we had free reading,
And I finished my book,
And then I ran off to chorus,
Where we do not learn to cook.

So that was my day at school.

Jazzapalooza- The end of the road

Last night was our all-city jazz festival, dubbed 'Jazzapalooza', and I thought it was fun. This year, we actually were doing it at a restaurant that does jazz groups every Sunday nights which was a pretty cool change. Our training group was first, so I was rocking on the piano doing lots of improv and stuff like that. I liked the piano I was using. It was nice and loud, so I didn't have to bang on the keys. A little while later our performance group went up and it was seriously the best we've ever played those three songs. I wish the judges from states could've seen us then! My solo in 'In A Sentimental Mood' was finally played exactly as Mrs Barry had been wanting it all along and in 'The Jazz Police' I was able to play the way-high-above-the-staff stuff at the end with no problem at all. All in all it was an excellent performance by all! However, last night was also the end of the road for performance jazz in middle school. There's no looking back now though- On to spring jazz we go!

It's wet. Period.

I wish we could have some more days like last Wednesday. I also wish I had a million dollars. Darn. Didn't get either. Sigh.........it's been raining again, as you can tell. I guess that's just April for you! Anyway, after school, me and a couple other kids (6th graders and one 7th grader) were helping pack up some stands and rhythm section stuff for Mrs Barry to take for Jazzapalooza on Sunday. Well, yours truly, the oldest AND one of the smallest kids gets stuck with the keyboard bass. Typical.... We dragged the stuff outside, and then I was standing in a large, deep puddle while trying to load stuff, and the 6th graders weren't that helpful, they just stood around holding music stands over their heads 'cause they didn't want to get wet. That was pretty much how well my school day went, not to mention having a nosebleed all over my homework in math class. Gross. That was not fun. Here's today's log:

French- Quiz!!! :P

Social Studies- Watched movie and took notes

Science- Took notes in the lab

-Gym-

-Lunch-

Math- Quick worksheet and the free reading

LA- discussing the book we're reading

oh it's fridayfridayfridayfriday FRIDAY!!!!!!

YAY!!!! My favorite day of the week has arrived again! After a long week of schoolwork, abominable tests, and busyness in general, it's almost the weekend where I get to finally relax. Except. Not this weekend. *SIGH....* I've got a lot of stuff coming up here's the update:

Tonight- I'm going to my friend Ripplestar's after school (maybe we'll do a conversation post or something)

Tomorrow- I have a make-up trumpet lesson in the morning and in the evening I have my conformation sleepover at the church, and we've been promised not sleep at all.

Sunday- Church (have to do yet another worship reflection), show a movie after church to people who are considering going to the summer camp Pilgrim Lodge, and then that night we've got Jazzapalooza from 5-9!

Monday/Tuesday- Back to school with TOOOOOOOONS of tests.

Wednesday- Job shadow day! Woot!

Thursday- Half day of school, hanging with friends in the afternoon and we're on VACATION!!!!!!!

So yeah. I'm busy.

OK, this is going to be a rather all around post, but I'm busy girl so that's understandable! Firstly, last night was our last dance of the year, and my last middle school dance. (we still have the 8th grade social, but that doesn't count =D ) Anyway, it was retro themed and Bella and Super Gato had these awesome retro outfits! They were really fun to look at. Me? I just wore skinny jeans and an orange tank top, lol. Anyway, we had so much fun and it was totally the best dance of the year. It was sponsored by the related arts teachers, and for some reason they're a lot more energetic than core subject teachers, and the best part was that they didn't just stand up by the wall watching, but they were out dancing to which was often hilarious to watch! They finally played Dancing Queen for us (thanks to a special request by our French teacher) and our group had so much fun with our routine to that song. Also when they played Tik Tok me and Elránia and Super Gato did our dance routine from the talent show, and I'm serious. EVERYBODY was watching us. They were standing up on the bleachers and crowding in a circle up front to see us which was super cool. So all in all, it was a fun night.

Now--Job shadowing! In 8th grade we get a job shadow day (this year April 14) where we get to go and, well, shadow someone with a profession that we might enjoy. I was able to get a place with the band director at the other middle school in our town, so I'm really excited for that!

Jazz surprise.....After our Jazzapalooza event on April 11, the two jazz bands come together with anyone else who wants to join, to form the Spring Jazz group. This is always an exciting, huge group. Anyway, yesterday Mrs Barry said that on this one song for Spring Jazz, Green Onions, she'd like to try something different and she'd like to play with the group in the saxophone section. And so she wants me to conduct the band! I'm so happy, this is going to be great :)

And finally, tomorrow is Easter. Alle- oops. Not supposed to say that word yet! :) I'm playing my trumpet out at the sunrise service that we hold by the ocean at six o'clock in the morning. I just hope it's not too cold! After, we'll do other stuff, go to the regular service at nine and in the afternoon have couscous dinner at my grandmother's. Fun! And then it's back to school...
