Arrival @ Destination Uno

After an eleven hour drive (with one stop at a hotel in New Jersey to sleep) we finally arrived at our first destination- Our grandparents place in Maryland. The drive was very long and tiring, especially in the3 backseat where I get very carsick, but we did have some interesting moments. Such as...

While driving through Massachusetts, (After about three hours of driving) my dad heard a funny little noise. Suddenly a grasshopper jumps out of nowhere and onto the dashboard, staring my mother in the face......while she's driving 75mph on the highway. Naturally, we go crazy, but my dad finally catches in and throws the grasshopper out the window. And that was all the excitement we had.

And now, a couple movie reviews from XanFan, on the two movies that we watched during the drive:
YEAH GO ME!!!!!!!!!..........ok
Night at The Mueseum:
Good movie and it's good because I like it. OK, but seriously, it's pretty awesome because evrything in the New York Museum of Natural History comes 2 life and the dude almost gets fired twice and then these dudes try 2 stael the thing that makes the museum come 2 life.SO AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! watch it.

Fantastic Mr. Fox
so its different from the book in a lot of ways but its still cool. so Mr. fox buys a tree nd his wife says he has 2 stop stealing birds but then 2 years later he starts staeling them again and then its the same as the book pretty much so ya bye seeya IM AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Cornet Crazie back here. I appologize for all of the awful grammar in the above. Like I said, that's not me typing. Off to the pool later, and D.C. tomorrow!)

Packing, Packing.......Laundry.

So tomorrow we leave on our trip. And today, I've spent the day doing *drumroll* laundry! Fun, fun! You know it's really not THAT bad. I'd much rather be doing laundry than say, cleaning. (shudders) But there's still A LOT to do before we leave, especially for me because I'm packing for two weeks instead of just the one. Why? 'Cause week-after-next I'm at PL again! (This summer is flying by waaaaay to fast. September first is looming just around the corner) But never fear, you don't have to go without me for two whole weeks, only the second one, because my mom is bringing her laptop on the trip. (Phew!) Wow, this is random. The laundry must be getting to me ;)

Trek Through the Garden

This morning my mom and I went down to have coffee with a neighbor down the street. She's hysterical, so we had some long laughs, creamy coffee, and good conversation. They also hove a lovely garden, and I was glad that I brought my camera! I have ten photos to share with you from the garden- If you could please comment and tell me what you think and which ones are you favorites. Honestly, I keep loving my camera more and more. (And I'm getting better and better too!)

Some stunning lilies...

The soft beauty of violets...

Always cute black eyed susans!

Baby still-green tomatoes. :)

In a few months, this flower will be a pumpkin!

Marigolds- a must-have to keep out unwanted pests!

And my personal favorite:

We're off for an evening at the beach! (More pics for tomorrow perhaps?)

A Contest Entry

Hello everyone! Not much to report- just another lazy summer day! My mom and I rode our bikes down to the beach for a little while but it was REALLY hot so we came back pretty quickly :) Anyway.....

Hannah @ My Nutty Life is having a photography contest with the theme of Summer Fun! The grand prize is a blog makeover by Olive Tree, and I'd just love it if I was able to win and have a fall look on the way for September. (Please vote on the new poll!) Here's my picture:

This picture really sums up summer fun for me. First of all, it's water and that IS where I seem to spend a whole lot of my time during the summer. What can I say? I love the beach, I love the sting of the salt, I love waves crashing on me and the sand, I love splashing my friends (even if it means getting splashed back), boogie boarding and bodysurfing. But this picture, while it isn't calm water, it doesn't show roaring waves either. It's simply a ripple splashing on the shore. To me this is playful and free- just like summer. A time where you can kick back, relax, and just have some time to be yourself. There's no school, there's nothing to worry about, you can just let go.
Go on.
Have some fun and be free.
Be YOU.

So that's it for that! Did I tell you that my family is going on a trip next week? It's not much (and I'll have the laptop- yay!) but we're going to Maryland to see family, D.C. to see family and sight-see, Delaware to see family, Philadelphia to see Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, and finishing up the week with some time down in Cape May! (to see family) We're going to leave after XanFan's camp gets out on Friday and the worst part of it will be the first drive from here to Maryland- 12 hours. (or thereabouts) Ouch....

a day at the park

A few days before I left for band camp, me, XanFan, and my mom met up my my aunt and two little cousins, Sammy and Millie. I took some pictures, and so I thought that I might share the best ones with you.

We were just playing in the grass and on the swings at first, and these two cuties were full of energy!

Millie pointed out a seagull to me, so I snapped a few pics of him.

After playing in the big field for a while, we walked down the short distance to the rocky beach.

XanFan loves skipping rocks- and is very good at it too!

These last two pictures are definitely my favorites! This first one is a wave crashing up onto some rocks.

We had such a fun couple of hours! (I love getting to play with my cousins)

Finally I took this final picture of a ripple splashing on the shore. I just love it!

PS: check out my new profile pic!

Pain, Tornadoes, And Other (More Cheerful) Points of Interest

Hey everyone! I'm back! (Well, of course I am! I'm writing this post, aren't I?) I missed you guys so much over the past week and there were several moments when I really, really, wanted to post about something- but I didn't have a computer, :( , so I guess I just have to squeeze it all into one big post!

From the title, you may conclude that my week may not have been very good, but on the contrary, (aside from a few things) band camp was excellent! I'll start with the topic of the music.

I'd been working on my audition pieces for the concert band and jazz band since May, so even though I was nervous going into the audition, I was not a complete wreak or anything. Anyway, it went super well, and I ended up getting second chair in concert band and second chair in the top jazz band! (You might remember that it was my goal to get 1st or 2nd chair in both) I was soooo happy. That meant I would be playing the first part (in concert band) and if their were any solos/duets I would have a really good shot at them. There did end up being a duet in our second song in concert band that I got to play with another trumpeter from my school, and it went really well. All the songs were really fun to play in both jazz and concert band and it was awesome playing the top first parts in everything! (Although {and this is the pain part} everything was *super* high and so my face hurt SO bad!)

Now, that's the music summary, and here's a story:

It was Tuesday night and I could not sleep at all. Evidently, camp food was making me rather sick. I finally drifted off around 4am, but I missed all the rehearsals on Wednesday because I was still sick. (sadness) By the evening however, I was feeling reasonably OK, so I was able to accompany the rest of the camp to Funtown. (You probably remember this place from when my 8th grade band went) anyway, we got there at around 5:30 and started having fun! I couldn't eat anything or go on many rides, but I still was having a good time. It was a beautiful day! It was warm and there weren't many clouds; the only thing to make it better would have been if I was feeling better.

I was on the bumper cars with a bunch of other camp kids and the ride was about to start when the camp director whips out his iPhone, checks the Doppler radar and says "There's a tornado warning in {insert name that campus is in}."  (in my state, tornadoes are, like, terrible storms that never come near us.) Anyway, after hearing this news I'm a little edgy, and some of us go off for food. We're eating and drinking out sodas, and talking when the thunder begins. (As a side note- through this whole experience I am furiously texting my parents, because things are starting to get a little freaky...) At first it's just a little rumble here and there, a booming sound in the background. But after about twenty minutes or so, there's a little flash of lightning. Through texts, I've found out that there's a really big storm heading towards us; all red on the Doppler. Counselors are talking urgently on cell phones, while the rumbles and flashes become less random. Finally we all end up under a large tent covering one of the picnic areas. I'm looking out over the parking lot were the clouds are boiling in the sky- black and as ominous as death. I try to breathe deeply and relax but it's impossible with the given climate. There are several tornadoes that have touched down. One went really close to campus, so they had to close it down. And the scariest of all- There are tornadoes coming towards us. Everything is getting so intense and scary, I just want to be at home, or at least back in my dorm room, but we're not even on the buses yet! The mega storm is about to strike when a Funtown employee comes barreling around a conner screaming "CODE BLACK! CODE BLACK! EVACUATE FUNTOWN! THERE ARE TORNADOES; GET YOUR KIDS OUT OF HERE!!!!" It was pretty crazy. We ran like crazy to the buses and as soon as we got in it was upon us. The rain came down so hard it was like we were at the bottom of a lake. The thunder was constantly there, and the lightning continuous. I was so afraid that a tornado was going to come out of nowhere and run us all over. I prayed so hard, and somehow, amazingly, it narrowly missed us, and the storm passed over. We drove back and stayed in safe place until we could go up to our dorm rooms. We didn't have power, but that didn't matter. We were safe.

And that, my friends, was my extremely frightening Wednesday evening.

Tomorrow I've got a long tag from Izori, Olive Tree, Elrania, and Bella and sometime this coming week I do have a post that I'd like to do on a couple cool reflections I had this past week. have a wonderful evening!

With the posts these next few days centered around the end of the contest and winners, I realized that I probably wouldn't be able to do a post about band camp before I left! So, well, this is it. Band camp starts on Sunday and this also means that I'll be saying goodbye to you all for another week. (*sob*) Other than that, band camp is like one week of heaven- for the most obsessive band geeks. Why is it heaven? Just look at the daily schedule for Monday-Friday!

Just awesome. On Sunday of course, we do less since check-in is between 12 and 2 and we have to do auditions and get music and all that jazz but still. The above schedule for 5 whole days??? Awesome. I've been working on my audition pieces for soooo long and they sound really good; I want to make first trumpet in bother concert and jazz band so that's why I've been working so hard :) Anyway, that's where I'll be next week.

(As a random side note, my lawn is orange. Yes, orange. It dried up really badly during the heat wave, and now the rain is saturating it, turning what was once a lush green lawn into a bunch of orange grass. Gross.)
