An Ending And Reflection

I just can't believe that today it will be over! So much has changed since the beginning of this year. At first I hated my math teacher and thought the others were OK, but now it's pretty much the opposite. And I've just learned so much. I've excelled in math. I got my trumpet. I learned what truly makes a good teacher and a bad teacher. Just look at how wonderful this blog has become! I felt pride when I finished my novel. I can speak French pretty well now. I've learned to live, really live. I combated swine flu. I polished my dream. I learned clarinet and mallet percussion. I joined the high school marching band. Friends and social groups morphed and changed a bit. I learned to say goodbye. It's been an interesting year, and that's for sure! And well, I've still got today. A day filled with a fun field trip with my class during the day and goodbyes and graduation in the afternoon and evening. It's a good way to end it.

Day of destiny. It was her moment. Carpe Diem- Seize the day. She smiled a long, slow smile; the first real smile since that fateful day in October. No matter what happened today, for this fleeting instant, she was truly happy.

That is a little excerpt from the beginning of the final chapter of......Trumpet's Secret, which lamely was the book closest to me since it resides on the desktop of my MacBook. In here, Kasta is standing at the window watching the sun rise, and she knows that this will be an exceedingly important day, as Mrs Ochono earlier called it: It will be the day to fulfill your destiny.

Yesterday was our Bake Sale for Haiti at the drama play and it went soooo well! We ended up making $155.20 that's going straight to the Red Cross. It felt really good to do this. :)

Now for the creepiness. After school yesterday, Ripplestar and I volunteered to clean the Instrument room for our band director. And here's the creepy thing. We were working steadily when I came across this trumpet lying without a case with a bashed in bell and different types of lacquer.  I was beside myself thinking 'ACK! No, this has already happened before here. Why are things starting to go like my novel in real life?' I guess that's what I get for basing some parts of the story on real life. (The two trumpets in the story are VERY real. My band director found them last year in the instrument room.) Anyway, the poor thing probably is beyond repair so my band director said that if the repairman does declare it un-repairable, she's going to give it to me, because I love vintage instruments. Even if they're bashed up. They are still cool.

Finally, today Super Gato and I are going over to Elránia's house to work on our talent show act. Gonna be soooo much fun!  I can't wait to see what Super Gato has come up with for a dance routine :)

Hmmmmmm. This is really post 401, but why is post 400 showing up before yesterday's daybook. I posted it AFTER. Ahhhhhh well. That's OK. Just confusing since the 'it's getting really exciting' post about post 400, is shown AFTER post 400.....

Writing, Writing, Writing!

Yes! Writing. Re-writing. Editing. The 5th, and final copy, of Trumpet's Secret. The original copy was finished over April break of last year. It was 34 normal book-sized pages. Final copy: 34 pages, less than a 3rd done. I think. Certainly no more. It's not intended to be 500 pages. Rather, a nice roughly 150-200 page book that I'll be really happy about. Wanna know some more?

Kasta Shepsheir has always knew she would do something great.

She's lived her whole life in a small Maine city with her family, her cornet, and her passion for music. But the beginning of 7th grade turns her life upside down, and a mysterious trumpet is only the tip of the iceberg. With a year filled with tragedy, love, friendship and power, Kasta's life will never be the same again.

That's just the little blurb.  Here are the 9 main characters.

Mrs. Rose Ochono:  The band director at Kasta's school. Kasta's favorite teacher and finder of the mysterious trumpet.

Kasta Shepsheir: Main character. Young girl with a huge dream. Music is her whole life, plays cornet until she stumbles upon a great discovery.

Other Main Characters: {the above are the most main, the 7 below are Kasta's friends that play a large part in the story}
