Les Mis Love

"At the end of the day you're another day colder, and the shirt on you back doesn't keep out the chill. And the righteous hurry past, they don't hear the little ones crying, and the winter is coming on fast, ready to kill.
One day nearer to dying."

Les Misérables. Translated roughly to mean "The Miserable People". It's a book, a Broadway production and a movie. Here's the synopsis:

"Les Misérables (literally "The Miserable Ones"; usually pronounced /leɪ ˌmɪzəˈrɑːbl/; French pronunciation: [le mizeʁabl(ə)]), translated variously from the French as The Miserable Ones, The Wretched, The Poor Ones, The Wretched Poor, or The Victims) , is an 1862 French novel by author Victor Hugo and is widely considered one of the greatest novels of the 19th century. It follows the lives and interactions of several French characters over a seventeen-year period in the early 19th century, starting in 1815 and culminating in the 1832 June Rebellion.[1]
The novel focuses on the struggles of ex-convict Jean Valjean and his experience of redemption. It examines the nature of law and grace, and expounds upon the history of France, architecture of Paris, politics, moral philosophy, antimonarchism, justice, religion, and the types and nature of romantic and familial love. The story is historical fiction because it contains factual and historic events.
Les Misérables is known to many through its numerous stage and screen adaptations, most notably the stage musical of the same name, sometimes abbreviated "Les Mis" (pronounced /leɪ ˈmɪz/)."

"I dreamed a dream in time gone by, when hopes were high and life worth living. I dreamed that love would never die, I dreamed that God would be forgiving. Then I was young and unafraid, and dreams were made and used and wasted. There was no ransom to be paid, no song unsung, no wine untasted."

Pretty miserable huh? But it's a great story and I know a one other blogger, Laurea, who particularly loves it. We sang a medley of Les Mis  songs in the chorus at band camp too, many of which are quoted here. The best part of Les Mis is DEFINITELY the music.

"I know a place where no one's lost. I know a place where no one cries. Crying at all is not allowed. Not in my castle on a cloud."

But WHY am I going on and on about the awesomeness of Les Mis? Well, every year, my high school puts on a simply amazing musical in February. Really. It's incredible EVERY SINGLE YEAR. And this year's show? I bet you can't guess...that's right. Les Mis! :)

"Will you join in our crusade, who will be strong and stand with me? Beyond the barricade, is there a world you long to see? Then join in the fight that will give you the right to be free!"

No, I'm not acting. But I am.....IN THE PIT BAND!!!!! I found out I made it playing trumpet today which makes me very happy. Our first practice is on Friday and we'll get music and stuff and start rehearsing. Pit requires a lot of perfect timing so I'll have to make sure never to zone out. ;)

"God on high, hear my prayer. In my need, you have always been there. You can take, you can give, let him be, let him live.
If I die, let me die.
Let him live, bring him home.
Bring him home"

Finally, I've whipped up a short playlist of my five favorite Les Mis songs that are also quoted here for you to listen to. In order of appearance in this post: At the End of the Day
I Dreamed A Dream
Castle On A Cloud
Do You Hear the People Sing?
Bring Him Home

'Tis The Season!

Ahhh. Thanksgiving is over, November 2010 is soon to be history, and the holiday season is approaching fast! Why do I love this time of year? Let me spell it out....

1. It's Advent!

Hope, Peace, Love & Joy
and of course, the Christ candle.
I love seeing the Advent candles lit and their stories told every year.
My favorite part of the Christmas season though, is the Christmas Eve services. They are always so pretty with all the candles and quiet readings and songs. Me love.

2. Secrets and Surprises

Yeah...I live opening presents as much as the next person, but really, I enjoy planning for what I'm going to give others a lot more. I really like doing gifts for my family and friends and I love to watch them being opened. Surprises are so much fun!!!

3. Cookie Day

One of the great traditions in my Dad's side of the family is to get together one Saturday and simply bake cookies all day! It's great fun and I can't wait for it on Saturday!

4. Holiday Party

One of the other things my family has done each year (Except last year because of my mom being in school and stuff and having no time...) is host a holiday party. We invite a bunch of people over, cook some yummy snacks and...PARTY!!!!!!! Who doesn't like the sound of that?

5. Christmas Pageant

Another church tradition is the kid's Christmas pageant. I've assistant directed for the past two years after many many many years in the actual pageant. We've used the same pageant for many years though and it was getting old so last year my associate pastor and I sat down and, well, wrote a new one which I will be directing. :)
I'm very pleased with it. It's called 'So You Think You Know The Christmas Story'.
It's funny, and will be great.
Here's a snapshot of part of one scene...enjoy!

Scene Four: Angel Conference

Narrator 2: So what happens next?

Narrator 1: Take a guess, I bet you can figure it out!

Narrator 2: Um....Mary and Joseph go to Bethlehem?

Donkey: Don't forget me! I went too!

Narrator 1: Hang on donkey. The reason we left you out is that Luke says nothing about a donkey. But, I guess you can come along if you want.

All participants (Excluding littlest angels) sing 'O Little Town Of Bethlehem'
Narrator 2: Well, it says that this scene is about an angel conference. Does that mean that Gabriel is going to tell everybody that they are going to have a baby?

Narrator 1: No, it's more like a meeting. Would you like to call it to order?

Narrator 2: Yes please. ALL ANGELS REPORT TO THE HEAVENLY REALM! ALL ANGELS TO THE HEAVENLY REALM!

Angels all file in to the center of the chancel except for Gabriel
Angel 1: Well, since it seems that Gabriel is running late from one of his important errands,

Angel 2: Let's have some entertainment while we wait.

Littlest Angels file up and sing 'Go Tell It On The Mountain'

Angel 3: That was really great. And Gabriel still isn't back!

Angel 4: Well, let's discuss. Why is it always Gabriel who gets to deliver all of the good news?

Angel 5: Yesterday, I was sent to deliver bad news.

Angel 1:  I had to deliver bad news too. A few days ago, I had to go tell a town that someone poisoned all of their avocados!

Angel 2: I think it's because we're girls.

Angel 3: The Angel Office is completely prejudiced!

Angel 4: We should go on strike!

Angel 5: Gabriel will just have to give in to us.

All angels: YEAH!

Angels grab signs from side that say 'No more bad news!' and 'We want good news!' and begin to chant the same.

Gabriel enters
Gabriel: What is going on in here?

Angels: No more bad news, we want good news!

Gabriel: Oh. You're on strike again. Holy cow! What is it this time?

Cow: Moo.

Angel 1: We're tired of always sending the bad news to people.

Angel 2: Yeah, you get to send all the good news because you're a boy!

Gabriel: OK....calm down. I have a message to deliver tonight to some shepherds. You can all come if you want.

Brickways, Magic, & Travel

Hey everyone! So over Thanksgiving, my family decided to use up a bonus week for our timeshare and spend the holiday week down in Cape Cod. We got down here Sunday night, and hung out right around here yesterday, and today we traipsed up to Providence, RI.
We had been there a few years back and went to this AWESOME cafe called Brickway on Wickenden, so we went there for breakfast. They've got these hot chocolates that come in mugs as big as soup bowls with towering piles of whipped cream and some scrumptious hashbrowns among other things. Yum. :)

We then headed to the mall, Providence Place, which also contains a huge movie theater. We got our movie tickets, and still had a few minutes to poke around in some of the shops. I've been needing a nicer warm coat that I can wear to school and church and around and stuff as the only things I have right now are by ski coat and marching band jacket. We ended up buying this really cute pea coat at Aéropostale that I love very much.

Finally we went and saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows {part 1} in IMAX. The screen was so incredibly huge and the surround sound made everything shake. The movie was totally awesome, and very true to the book which was nice. I can't wait for part two!

All and all, we had a good time today, and we're going to go up to Plymouth tomorrow which should also be fun. What are you guys up to? :)

Just An Update (Because I Have The Time)

Shhhh.....it's not really me......I'm really not posting this.......
But yeah I am. I'm not back, but I decided to just do a little more than a quick update, 'cause I've got the time.

It's gonna be random, folks.
So marching band is over, we have our banquet, in a couple weeks, and jazz band has started! Elránia and I have been working hard on When You Believe for December 12th.
Also pit band will be starting soon for our school's production of Les Miserables which is ohsoexciting.
Next weekend is our church's annual church fair in which I will be complimenting the atmosphere with lovely Christmas tunes on my trumpet.
And speaking of my trumpet, Wednesday was my one year anniversary of buying it!!!!!! I love you pretty Xeno.....here's to many more years together!
HARRY POTTER 7 PART 1 COMES OUT NEXT FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the school world, we finished our first quarter one week ago. Honor roll for me :)
We had our 3rd biology test today on 'evidence of evolution and speciation' and it took me a whole two hours to complete. Love biology, my teacher's awesome, despise the tests.
So not looking forward to my final and SAT at the end of the year.
In gym today we played with basketballs, with apparently are little balls of evil static energy. Seriously, I picked one up, it gave me a major shock and my hair went POOF! Sigh.....
I've added the holiday playlist at the bottom, so enjoy the new tunes! If there's a favorite song that I'm missing, don't hesitate to tell me in a comment. :)

So I was feeling random.....so I did this video....on Photobooth...and it's pretty funny and random.
It's not long but you'll want to pause my playlist and turn your computer's volume up high, otherwise it might get hard to understand.

So I'm going to go now and play a little on my cornet.
I miss my cornet :'(
It's so sad because it never gets played since I got my loverly Xeno.
Poor cornet.
At least you live on it my name. ;)
Have a lovely night and weekend!
CORNET CRAZIE LOVES YOU!!!!!!

...yeah...i'm hyper...halloween candy overdose....

all in all, way too much

Yes I love to write.

But I didn't realize how much it was really going to take out of me, or how stressful NaNoWriMo was really going to be.

And I can't be stressed out.

If I get stressed out I won't sleep well, my work won't be of my best quality, I won't be able to advance in my trumpet playing, and there's a high possibility that I'll get sick.

And I hate being sick. Especially since I'm prone to coming down with really nasty stuff like pneumonia and swine flu.
Besides, my story was all in all WAY too depressing. I'll probably work on it still, a little here a little there, and post it on Anecdote.

But with my schedule, my amount of homework, 50,000 words in one month was starting to push me over the edge in just a few days.

All in all, way too much.

Maybe you'll think I'm a quitter, but I really can't stress myself out like that. I need to stay in top condition....for as long as possible.

So good luck to all of you still going strong!

(This also means I'm back to blogging)

Forget this post. It grabbed me again. I'm not back til December. I'm finishing.

11.02.2010

saying goodbye

Hey guys :)

As many of you know, NaNoWriMo started yesterday and my novel is coming along well, and I'm going to ((hopefully)) by cranking out a couple thousand more words tonight and get caught up (I'm a bit behind due to my homework situation last night) But this is the thing. Because I'm a public-schooler I don't have the luxury of a flexible schedule so most of the time I'm grasping for moments to type out a few words at a time and I'm given lots of homework pretty much every night.

Which brings me to my conclusion. If I'm to do well in NaNoWriMo- I can't be blogging. Pretty much all my time on the computer is going to have to have to be homework and writing. I might do a post tomorrow that's basically stats on how the writing process is going and I'll update THAT daily, but I just won't have the time for a regular post like this one.

So with that, I say goodbye to all of you until December (this also means the awesome contest ends on DECEMBER 1 now) when I will judge the contest and Treble Clef will get it's winter look. To other people doing NaNo, good luck to you all!

((hugs))
